The commercial heart of Italy and home of ‘La Scala’ is an excellent city in which to spend a few days and visit such monuments as Leonardo da Vinci’s newly restored ‘Last Supper’ in the convent adjacent to the church of S. Maria delle Grazie, the Brera Collection of old masters’ paintings in the Pinacoteca di Brera as well as the early 6th century Christian Basilicas built of small bricks and mosaic, with fresco decorations commemorating the martyrdom of very early saints. Finally in the great Visconti castle one can see a fine collection of furniture and sculpture including Michelangelo’s ‘Pietà’.
