Aix and Orange are two of France’s most distinguished festivals, and both towns the loveliest in Provence. The former hosts, each July, the Festival d'Art Lyrique et de Musique, which brings the most refined classical music, opera and ballet to such settings as the new Grand Théâtre de Provence and the old Théâtre on Rue de l'Opera. The latter famous for its Théâtre Antique, the best preserved Roman theatre in the world and designed to seat 10,000 spectators, is home to the prestigious international opera festival known as Les Chorégies.
