SAVONLINNA
In 1475 a Danish Knight founded a fortress and named it Olavinlinna after St Olaf of Norway. Today this delightful town is the lakeside setting for a sophisticated Opera Festival. Performances are given in the courtyard of Olavinlinna castle, remarkable for being the oldest surviving building in the Nordic lands.
